Some Important Management Questions

Is there a minimum number of members required to start the program?

No, on the basis that we operate a communication and enrolment program, as agreed in the outline plan on August 30th.

Is there a maximum age for joining?

Eligibility is open to members of the Credit Union only, who have joined the Credit Union before their 71st birthday. For this initial enrolment period, we will allow members to join over 71, on the basis that they had joined the Credit Union before age 71 originally. This promotion will end 31st March 2018,normal T&C apply after that.

Can members join after January 1st?

New joiners to the Credit Union can sign-up at time of joining, and entered into the annual program at 4 different point throughout the year i.e. before April 1st ,July 1st, , October 1st & January 1st 2019.

How do claims work?

Claims operate in the exact manner as any DBI claim in the past, simply a claim form and death certificate made through the Credit Union

Is there any health requirements?

Members are insured from the first day of policy cover, ie, January 1st. If the member dies from pre-existing illness, then a period of six months must have elapsed from their joining date. For all other causes of death, eg accidents, they are covered immediately.

Is this a regulated sale?

No, for the purposes of insurance mediation. However, all activities from the Credit Union are regulated under the Credit Union Act, and CBI guidance, as is this.

Is there a mDBI policy?

The policy holder is the Credit Union. However, as the member has paid for this, we publish the Policy Summary and actual Policy on the website. The Policy is maintained by CUNA Mutual for Capital Credit Union.

Can the price or value change annually?

This is key, yes it can, and this depends upon two things the age mix and number of members in the program. The higher the age of members, and the smaller the volume of total members in the program, the less stable it is.

How stable is this program?

The program is sustainable and stable if we can get a reasonable mix and number of members into the program, For example, if the only members that join are over the age of 65, then the rates will rise quickly as mortality increases. More members = a more stable program,. We have a total of 35,500 members, of which over 28,000 are active.

There are two mDBI programs already in operation, and both are stable. The first has 6,600 members enrolled and the second, 4,700 members. We could reasonably expect c. 5,000 members to join this program (many have had it in the past and will want it again), however its essential to get a ‘family’ feel to the program to gain a mix of ages.

Can anyone join the programme?

You must be a member of the Credit Union and have joined before your 71st birthday and you need to sign and submit the enrolment form. The annual fee will be taken from the member’s account.
